Why are the electricity bills increasing?
..
Nowadays, every other person is worried about the electricity bills, some are blaming it on the caretaker government and some on the previous PDM government.
What is the real issue?
Currently, the production capacity of electricity in Pakistan is 44000 MW, while the maximum demand for electricity is 23000 MW, that too in summer, while in winter, the demand for electricity decreases by several thousand MW.
The real incident is put here, in 2013 Nawaz Sharif government has entered into contracts with Chinese power generation companies based on production capacity i.e. if the capacity of the power plant is 100 megawatts and the government is buying 50 megawatts of electricity from it. . But according to the agreement, the government is bound to pay 100 megawatts to the power plant. That is, whether the electricity is used or not, the private generating companies will be paid on the basis of production capacity and this payment will be in dollars. Currently, this amount is being charged in the name of "Capacity Charges" in electricity bills from ordinary citizens. In other words, 25 crore people are paying for 44 thousand MW by using 23 thousand MW of electricity in summer.
The main reason for the high cost of electricity in the country is the anti-people agreements of the Nawaz League government with Chinese companies which were made with kickbacks worth billions of rupees. Surprisingly, no one in the media is talking about these anti-people agreements. No one is questioning why double capacity agreements were made out of necessity. Power plants are generating electricity from furnace oil, diesel and imported coal. As the value of the dollar increases, the prices of imported petrol, diesel, LNG, furnace oil and coal will also increase, making electricity more expensive. Urdu alert
